June shows
Here’s some basic information that should apply to both the June shows.
SHOW FEES
–Registration money is due ten days before the show, so if you haven’t paid your money already, talk to Susan because I forgot about the deadline but she may not have.
–Cost is $15 bitted, $15 2-Handed, $10 foal. These fees apply to Point Shows and County Fair.
SHOW TIMES
–2-handed registration will begin at 7:30, show begins at 8:00
–Bitted registration from 7:30 to 9:00
–Test will begin at approximately 11:00
TEST
Junior questions will be from Horses and Horsemanship, Intermediates from Horses and Horsemanship and a little Horse Science, and Seniors primarily from Horse Science. All ages will have questions from the Rule Book. All questions will be taken from the first third of the books for the first show, and the second third of the books for the second show.
ARENA HELP
–Parents of 2-Handed riders will set up trail/equitation events.
–We will be responsible for setting up for Flag Race and will probably be needed as backup timers.
SERVICE PROJECT
–Everyone will be encouraged to bring food for the food bank again.
Calendar Up and Running
Hey, we’re slowly getting things put together around here. The calendar page now has show dates and if I think of other important dates, I’ll put those up too. Photos should be coming, but most of what I have is from summer of 2006 and last year. I know we’ve got to have more up-to-date fun pictures, so if you’ve got some you’d like to share, please e-mail them to me. Also, please leave comments, blogging is so much more fun that way!
Practice Show
The practice show will be this Saturday, May 31 at Bit ‘n’ Spur arena in Tooele. I’m not positive on the starting time, but if you’re there and ready to register at 8:30, I’m sure it’ll be fine. It’s a practice show, so it’ll be a (very) little more relaxed than a point show. Show fees will be $5 for the day, plus several cans of food for the Food Bank as our service project. I was told the fee would be $5 per child, so I don’t think it matters how many horses you’re showing. The show will be just like a normal show including foal, two-handed, bitted, and test, with the same events as last year.
Practice times
We’ve had a request for possibly changing our club meeting time. We’ve got a vote for Saturday evenings (to free up mornings for other sports events). Susan and I are fine with that. We’re also flirting with the idea of a weekday practice either instead of or in addition to the Saturday practice. So far Monday and Thursday is out. Post a reply and let us know what works for you, and hopefully we can find a day and time that works for everybody!
Our next practice will be on Saturday May 24 at 6:00 pm. It will also be at the Grantsville Arena so we can have a bigger area to work with. I will put together a book work activity, but I’ll try to put something together that doesn’t require paper or books since we’ll be at the arena.
Online Safety
Before we really get going with posts and comments, I’d like to give a word of warning. For the most part, the only people using this site will be affiliated with our club. But, this is the World Wide Web, and there are some pretty scary people out there just looking for someone to slip up and give a little too much information. We hear a lot about phishers trying to get financial information, but there are also those who are looking for you, not your money. So, to be on the safe side, please do not write anybody’s last name, address, e-mail address, or any other personal information. I put a contact page so if somebody (other than club members, because I already trust you with the info) wants to e-mail me, they can do so without seeing my e-mail address. I’m hoping this site will be fun for us to use, but just be careful of what gets put here. It’s really hard to get something off the internet even if you think it’s gone.
Your Favorite Breed
I’d love to hear about everybody’s favorite horse breed. What is it, and why do you love it? Do you personally know a horse of that breed?
I’m in love with lots of breeds, but I think my favorite to look at and to ride is the Andalusian. Thanks to Susan, I was introduced to the breed and fell in love with the way they look and move. Susan’s mares are only half Andalusians, but they definitely look more Andalusian than Arabian. Their heads are long and strait, with big, kind eyes. Their necks are strong and arched, and they have powerful shoulders and hindquarters. They have long legs that keep them from looking stocky like Quarter Horses. I love watching Andalusians performing Dressage, because they just look incredible. I really enjoyed riding Maggie in 4-H, and I know Kelcey loves Rose. Too bad there aren’t more here in Utah!

Blog ideas
I want this site to be for everyone’s ideas, and not just mine. If you ever have a conversation idea that you’d like to share, e-mail the text you’d like posted, and I’ll put it up. I would love to have conversations about club management between the parents, and I’d love for the kids to talk about shows, practices, what they like and what their horses are doing. Please, let this truly be a club site, and not just mine!
Future Site Features
As you’ve probably discovered, there isn’t a whole lot available on the site yet. But it’s coming! There will be links to the Utah horse 4-H site, the Utah 4-H site, and the national 4-H site on our home page. We will post the current month’s calendar with practice dates, horse council dates, and anything else I can think of. I will also have a list of important dates like show dates and when money is due. The blog you’ve already seen (obviously, or you wouldn’t be reading this). The photo gallery will be random pictures from shows and whatever else we feel like posting. If you have pictures you’d like to share, e-mail them to me and I’ll post them when I get the page going. Contact is pretty obvious, and the Dreamcatcher Ranch page will have information for Susan’s boarding/breeding endeavors. I’m on vacation in Arizona right now, but keep checking back for updates!
Dreamcatcher Blog Now Up and Running
Hey everyone, this is Admin speaking. The blog is now live. You’ll be seeing some tweaks to how the site looks, and some of the pages aren’t in place yet. In the meantime, feel free to leave a comment here.
